2019 Rankings

I have been asked by several people about their rank, and what events they are allowed to play. Here’s the list of every player that has participated on Mondays or Saturdays since January.

Below the table is a key to which events we hold and who can participate.

Contact matt@buffalofoosball if your name is missing and you’ve participated this year, or if you have questions about your rank. If you haven’t played in a Buffalo Foosball event, and you’re local, then you are considered a new player for the first few events. A beginner typically has less than 1 year of local tournament experience.

Tournament director has final say.

Monday Night Foosball

R&B – Rookies, beginners, new players

Saturdays

Pro/Am DYP a.k.a. A/B Draw, High/Low, Limited, or No-2-Pro – Open to all players. The field is split between A players, B players, and those in-between (-). An A will draw a B, and the in-betweeners will draw each other. There may be some temporary bumping up/down to make groups of A/B/- even.

Other Events

Open DYP – Open to all players. No restrictions on who you can draw as your partner.

Handicapped doubles – Open to all players. The difference in handicap is used to spot points to the lower ranked player or team. For doubles, average your handicap and round up. E.g.: Matt (4) & Patrick (1) vs. Mark (3) & Ariel (1). Matt & Patrick have a team handicap of 3. They will give 1 point per game to the team of Mark & Ariel, who have a team handicap of 2.

Open Doubles = Bring Your Partner or BYP – Open to all players

Rookie Doubles – Rookies, beginners, and new players

Amateur Doubles – Amateurs, rookies, beginners, and new players

Fall ‘18 Update

  1. Mondays:

Same format will be used – organized, casual pickup games open to everyone, handicapped for fairness. Free for 1st/2nd timers. $5 for experienced players.

We are finally getting a few new regulars, and once we have 4 or more beginners I will award free tournament entries and handle wraps.

6:30-8:30 at Expo Market

(arrive early for warm ups and instruction for new players)

In-house massages from Jessica of architectformen.com, 6pm – 8pm or by appointment.

Thursdays:

9/20, 9/27, 10/4, and Friday 10/12 will be the next 4 tournaments.

8:00 pm sharp at Expo Market

Format will be the same; handicapped race-to-7 games, but the $10 entry will be kept in the pot to build and results carry over week to week, league style.

100% payout following the Friday night monster DYP on Oct. 12. Top half advances to a doubles playoff

Final rankings based on:

1. Average points – fair*

2. Total games won

3. Strength of opponent (BH1)

4. Goal differential

*3 points awarded for each game won, 0 for a loss. However, in the event of a 7-6 final score (match point), 2 points awarded to the winning team, 1 point to the losing team. Also, average points will be curved, in case some players have played far fewer or far more total games than the majority of the field.

This should make for an exciting weekend in October, where a few players will win some significant $ prizes.

It is possible to attend 1/4 tournaments and end up placing, but due to the curve and tie breakers, this will be much harder to accomplish than you might think, so show up early and often to get #1 and keep it!

The Fri night tourney will precede a Saturday 10/13 tourney that will have 3 or 4 tables and hopefully draw some out of town players again.

Keep checking Facebook for that event and for some beat-the-pro events coming up in the next month.

Week 1:

See you then!

New for Summer ’18

In efforts to make Monday Night Foosball and Thursday Night Foosball bigger & better, a handful of things have been added and changed.

  1. The original tables that were installed at Expo have been switched out for newer (2017), identical models. They play great! Still only 75c per game, if you’d like to practice during the week.
  2. Handicap points system is in place. If you’ve been intimidated by the idea of playing with/against higher skilled players, just know that you will have a better chance at winning. Essentially, the more experienced you are, the more of a challenge you will be given.
    • There are 5 local ranks:
      1. First-time player – HDCP 0
      2. Beginner – HDCP 1
      3. Rookie – HDCP 2
      4. Semi-Pro – HDCP 3
      5. Pro – HDCP 4
    • If you don’t know your rank, just ask.
    • The difference in handicaps will be given to the lower ranked team as a point spot per game.
    • For doubles, the HDCP is the avg. of the 2 players, rounded up.
  3. Points Race
    • $50 award for most points  accumulated 6/4 – 7/30.
    • Free entry to the next regional event held here (Planning for Mid-August)
    • Each #MNF and #TNF you attend, you receive a point.  3 Additional points for 1st, 2 added points for 2nd, and 1 added point for 3rd.
    • Tournament Director not eligible.
  4. Prizes added to #MNF:
    • $15 gift cards towards a different Expo food vendor each week.
    • Masterwrap – handle wraps. (Also for sale. All 4 styles)
    • Free entry to #TNF
  5. Queen City Social – Buffalo Place is having a live music, outdoor party in Fountain Plaza, and will run 5-8pm, prior to #TNF. This event will feature a Buffalo Foosball tent, to provide a free activity to the crowd, and info for our group.

2nd Location! 2 New Tables!

Anchor Bar in Amherst is now hosting Buffalo Foosball organized events, starting with a Sunday Night league, together with Expo’s Monday night league, for the fall.

Here’s how these tables are made:

Contact Buffalo Foosball if you would like one of these tables yourself!

Upgrades!

Both tables are being upgraded right now for the May 13th tournament. Table 1 has all new bearings, bumpers, and handles. Table 2 will get all new bearings, bumpers, and a 2-rod as well. All new balls for tournament nights.

That’s 64 bearing halves and 32 bumpers!

Every man and pin has perfect action. A quick check on table 1 with the new bearings and it plays as fast as any table in my 10 year experience.
